How To Cook Onions On The Grill

Using tongs grab hold of the skewers and turn the onions every 5 minutes.
Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of sugar over the onions stir to combine and cook for 10 to 15 minutes more. Place the quartered onions over indirect medium heat. Place the onion pouch onto the grill surface on medium to medium high heat and allow it to cook for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Put the onions in foil on the grill.
Place packet on preheated grill and cook until the onions have softened and cooked to a deep rich brown 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the temperature of the grill. Fold the foil and close it to make a foil pocket. When it begins to foam tilt the pan and scrape off all of the white foam until you are left with clarified butter. Heat the grill for 5 10 minutes.
Reduce the heat to its lowest setting and add in the onion slices do not break apart the rings of onion. Some onions and some grills can take up to 45 minutes. Coat the onions on both sides with a mixture of 1 2 oil and 1 2 melted butter. They should easily flip.

Place each slice of onion on the grill. If they stick they aren t ready to flip yet. Turn the heat on your outdoor grill down to medium low and continue cooking for about 10 minutes. Onions sometimes fall through the grill grates so some people like to skewer the onions to make them easier to flip.
