How To Cook Clams On The Grill

Carefully pull each clam off individually as they open up wide taking the clam juice in the shell with you.
As soon as the clams pop open after 8 to 10 minutes transfer. Then cover the grill. When the clams are fully opened after about 5 minutes carefully remove them from the grill. Place the cooked clams in a large bowl.
Clams can be placed directly on the grates to cook. Stir the clams around in the garlic butter until the shells are coated this will evenly distribute the heat within shells. Cook the clams without turning them. Place clams in large container or a bowl with cool tap water and salt and let stand 20 30 minutes.
Space them out evenly. Place the clams directly onto the grill grates. As the clams pop open they will release clam juice. If they stay open throw them out.

Discard any clams that refuse to open as these have likely gone bad and are not safe to eat. Put the clams directly on the grill grate and cover them. Remove clams from water rinse and scrub off any additional gunk there may be on the outside. Add clams to the grill.
After 5 to 7 minutes the clams will begin to open. Using tongs transfer the clams to a bowl being careful not to spill any of their juices. Cook the clams on the grill without turning or flipping for 5 to 10 minutes. Once the clams have been coated add about 1 4 cup of wine per dozen clams.
The clams will begin to open up between 5 and 10 minutes on the grill. Check the clams after about 7 minutes and remove any that have opened. Set up the littleneck clams on the grill or great grates or place them directly on the grill. With this method you should only cook enough clams to cover the bottom of the pan.
