Fill the dent with either quick setting drywall compound or spackle and scrape it level with the surface of the drywall. Fix a larger dent in the wall. Run strips of self adhesive fiberglass drywall tape around the patch centering the tape on the seams. Once the hole is full scrape off the excess compound with the joint knife and wait for the compound to completely dry.
Cut a piece of store bought drywall to fit inside. Use a 6 inch drywall taping knife to spread drywall joint compound across the patch and tape to create a smooth flat surface. Scoop out a small portion of drywall compound with a 6 inch putty knife and apply a thin coat of compound. Repeat with a second coat.
