How To Cut A Two Tier Cake

Cutting round cakes event style servings.
The center core of each tier and the small top tier can be cut into 3rds 4ths and 6ths depending on size. Stand your columns up to the side of the cake and make sure they are not taller than the height of the cake. Move in 2 in. Then slice 1 in.
Use that dowel as a guide and cut the other dowels at the same height for that tier. Divide the tiers vertically into 1 2ths 4ths 6ths and 8ths. Put the columns onto the plastic plate cut side to the plate and line it up to the marks on the cake. Take a long serrated knife and cut the tier in an even line along one side.
Move in two inches from the tier s outer edge. Also i always use this trick to bake my cakes with flat tops but if your cake layers have a domed top you ll need to remove them with a serrated knife before slicing the layers in half. If they are cut them down with a small hand saw and wash off any excess. Now move in another 2 in.

The layers you d like to cut should be chilled as a cold cake is much sturdier than a cake at room temperature.
Push each dowel firmly into the cake. Cut the dowel the correct length and then cut the remaining dowels for that tier using the first measurement. For the following tier sizes you can expect to get this many 2 in 5 1 cm sections. To start dowelling the cake cut the dowels to tier height insert a dowel into the tier going down to the cake card mark the height of the dowel with a food safe pen taking the dowel out and cut it to size.
