How To Check Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
Olivia Luz

The gray white pin is b send from pin 44 of the dme.
Turn on the engine and turn the multimeter to its voltage setting. By now you should clearly see the fuel pressure sensor. The brown black pin is gnd. If there is a 5 volt reading then check the ground wire for a low resistance.
Signs of a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor include. To disconnect the pressure sensor first pull out the electrical wire then pry the sensor up removing it. This line only goes high when the dme wants to read the sensor so you will normally not see voltage on this pin at the sensor. The meter should have a reading of 5 volts.
Test the fuel rail pressure sensor using a digital volt ohmmeter as the engine is running. Disconnect the electrical connection and touch the probes of the multimeter to the car s electrical harness. The fuel tank pressure sensor is responsible for detecting leaks in the fuel system whether it be an evaporative leak or bad seal on the fuel cap. With a bad fuel pressure sensor the engine will not receive the correct amount of fuel for its internal combustion process.

Once the fuel tank pressure sensor detects a leak in the fuel tank system it alerts the ecu to trigger a check engine light. That method includes using a tank pressure sensor to indicate a magnitude of pressure in the tank using a pump to produce vacuum in the system communicating said vacuum to a port communicating with the fuel tank and checking correct operation of the fuel tank pressure sensor by comparing a pressure change indicated by the tank pressure sensor due to said vacuum with a pressure change due to said vacuum indicated by a second pressure sensor located in the system. Larger vehicles such as a chevy silverado and its 6 6l duramax engine will have more noticeable effects than something. Once you gain some space between the tank and the floor pan you can get in there with a long handled flat blade screwdriver and pry the old fuel tank pressure sensor off the retaining bracket.
