How do you fix a pull chain on a ceiling light.
Replace the old switch with a new pull chain switch then place the end cap back onto the light fixture. Jeff shows you the easy way of how to change an old broken porcelain pull chain light fixture on a ceiling light and replace it with a new pull chain fixture. In this video i show how i fixed a stuck pull chain on a light fixture in my basement. Pull the fixture down but keep your hands away from the wires.
Locate the wire connections from the pull chain switch to the unit. Twist the fixture to spiral the wires into the electrical box. If your lamp is equipped with a standard 3 piece plastic socket which is the case with most bankers lamps sold today this inner socket piece from amazon should do the trick. Slide the end cap over the chain and screw it onto the threaded nipple until secure.
Take one wire from the pull chain switch it doesn t matter which one and connect it to the black wire on the light fixture using a wire connector. Firmly tighten the screws so the copper wire compresses slightly. Pull chain light fixtures are handy for basements and storage areas until they quit working. Disconnect these wires and pull out the switch.

Carefully reattach the wires from the switch to the light remembering to pair black to black and ground to ground. These switches are pretty much universal and can be easily removed and replaced. Turn off the power to the pull chain light fixture by toggling off the circuit breaker in the electrical panel that controls the light s circuit. Turn off the power remove the light bulb and unscrew the fixture from the electrical box.Touch one voltage tester probe to the black wire and the other to the white wire. Take the new pull chain switch and insert the chain and threaded nipple through the hole in the fixture just like the previous one was. This is not a how to video i m just showing what i did to repair my. Screw the new fixture to the box snugly but don t over tighten it or the porcelain might crack.
If you hold the mechanism little switch usually black in color and pull the chain sideways with the other hand and it doesn t work properly go to your nearest home depot or lowes and get another one.
