How To Clean A Wooden Knife Block

Let your knife block sit for another 12 hours or more so that it is completely dry.
Allow it to dry completely overnight. Let the block dry completely. It is amazing what gets in there. Moisture is why you have mold in the first place.
Use a scraper to remove any soapy residue. Then add 1 teaspoon of bleach to 4 cups of warm water to make your knife block cleaning solution. Allow the block to dry completely. Dip a pipe cleaner into the solution then use it to scrub the inside of each slot in your block.
Then turn your block over and let it dry completely and don t reinsert your knives yet. Begin cleaning your knife block by removing the knives and tipping it upside down over the sink or a trash can. Hand wash the block in hot soapy water cleaning the slots with a small brush such as a baby bottle brush. Turn your blow dryer to its cool setting.

Rinse or replace the pipe cleaner as needed until each of the slots had been scrubbed thoroughly. Get a 12 inch pipe cleaner and work gently to insert it into each slot. Using a scrubby sponge or brush soap and water gently scrub the outside of the block. Wipe the solution around the outside of the container and then pour the mixture into the slots filling them up all the way.
Okay you re back in action. Avoid using too much water. Next submerge your knife block in water and use a bottle brush or pipe cleaner to clean the knife slots. Clean the outside of the wooden block.
You can also aim a hair dryer at the slots on the highest speed setting to blow any crud out. Wipe down the block with a clean damp cloth. When you feel your block is clean wipe the block with a clean dry cloth to make sure you are as dry as possible. Pour a bleach solution into the knife slots.

Clean the outside of the block with soapy water. Mix a tablespoon of bleach with a gallon of water. Rinse well then sanitize with a mild bleach solution 1 tablespoon of bleach to every. Pure bleach is too strong for this purpose and this mixture will efficiently sanitize the block.
